Pantheacon Workshops

Pantheacon Workshops Image
I have completed my class notes and handouts for the upcoming Pantheacon 2011, which is scheduled to occur next month, from Feb 18 through Feb 21. I have been slated to present two workshops at this gathering. This event is now less than a month away, and I have to say that I am really looking forward to it, particularly since the wintry weather here is getting a bit bleak and difficult to deal with. Sunny San Jose will be a welcome distraction to the cold tundra-like climate of the Twin Cities in the midst of deep winter.

Anyway, these two presentations are new to my slowly building collection of workshops and lectures. What I usually do for Pantheacon is to propose up to four workshops or lectures, all of them untried but based on previous articles and research. When one or more gets approved, then I will assemble my research and writings to build up the workshop or lecture. The two workshops that the Pantheacon staff selected were "Astrological Decans - Key to Evocation" and "Lunar Magick." The first one is based on three or four articles that I have already written and researched, and despite that assembled information, I still found that I had some holes in my presentation that had to be researched and filled. The second one was based on a rather lengthy article that I have written but never published entitled "Lunar Mysteries and Moon Magick." This article will be part of the book that I am assembling on Elemental and Talismanic Magick, using the lore of the Order of the Gnostic Star for that work.

If you have been faithfully reading my blog articles, you will note a recent article that I penned which dealt with the issues of the Goetic daemons and whether or not there were 72 daemons, 69 or perhaps even 73. You can find that article here, just in case you missed it. That was a bit of a hair pulling conundrum that I had to resolve before writing my presentation on the Astrological Decans. As I resolved that issue, I also wrote up an article to support that research, adding to the total articles needed to back up the presentation.

One issue was still outstanding, and I ran smack into it when I attempted to start pulling and assembling all of the writings and data that I had collected or written together. I discovered that there appears to be two schools of thought when it comes to assigning the spirits (both angels of the ha-Shem and the Goetic daemons) to the specific decans and their associated quinarians. This issue was discovered when I was working on retrieving the seals for the 72 angels of the ha-Shem and attempting to show how the decan could be more aptly used to define the qualities of the spirits. I wanted to see if other authors had given the decans that much power in defining the qualities of the associated spirits.

What I discovered is that the two schools seem to be the Golden Dawn and other European occultists, with Carroll "Poke" Runyan and his system giving weight to the European methodology. The whole issue revolves around where to start the decan and spirit association, in other words, which decan would be considered the first decan in this set, and this might also determine when in the season one could access that decan. The Golden Dawn system starts their decan list with first decan face of Leo, the other methodology starts in the most obvious place, in the first decan face of Aries. Starting in Aries would make sense if one were using Tropical Astrology, which is what I use in all my occult works. This is because it's considered the starting point for that system of astrology, which naturally starts at the Vernal Equinox (zero degrees Aries). The Golden Dawn preference for starting in Leo was both unexpected and also poorly documented. Very few authors have given any explanation as to why this choice was made, but many, including Thelemites like Lon Milo DuQuette (and Aleister Crowley) used this system, seemingly without question.

As you recall, we stated previously that each decan appears at the ascendent at dusk (or some say dawn) for approximately 10 days, which would leave five intercalated days. So if one has a methodology that determines the first decan and the start of the astrological wheel, it could also impact not only the spirits associated with quinarians, but also their qualities and astrologically based definitions. I decided that this issue warranted a massive search that would include the internet as well as any and all books in my library. I also consulted with a friend of mine (Ananael Qaa) who is probably a lot more knowledgeable about these obscure issues than me. What I uncovered was that other occultists had different opinions on how this should be resolved.

"Poke" Runyan decided that the traditional tropical astrological paradigm required that the first decan face in the set should be the first decan of Aries. Another individual, French occulitst Robert Ambelain, who wrote the book "La Kabbale Pratique," also favored the Aries first solution. I found a translation of chapter five of his book on the Shemhamphorash in a PDF file associated with a certain Golden Dawn group. Still, despite all of that weighty evidence pointing to the starting point at the first decan of Aries, I was unfortunately wedded to the Golden Dawn version that proposed Leo as it's starting point. The rational for this choice is explained in Book T with a rather terse and unhelpful explanation. I was vaguely informed by this brief explanation that the reason for this odd starting place has to do with determining that point using the star Cor Leonis (Heart of the Lion, also Regulus), which represents the beginning of the zodiacal sign of Leo. No reason for this choice is discussed or why it was used. This lack of explanation could be considered a small mystery, or just something that was assumed everyone would know.

Other authors have done little to illuminate this choice. Aleister Crowley accepted it without any comment, which was odd. If it were an arbitrary choice, then I am sure that Crowley would have researched it and replaced it with something more "Thelemic." Even Lon Milo Duquette, in his book "Angels, Demons in fact, intuitively I would have chosen the Aries first method instead, and there seems to be little need to explain that approach.

One other little item I found out is that the proper spelling for the word Shemhamphorash is actually Shem ha-Mephorash. That little point was made known to me in my research, and I have adjusted my notes and handouts accordingly.

The assembling of the Lunar Magick workshop was actually quite straightforward. In fact I had more material than I could conceivably present in a 90 minute maximum class time period. I will have to zip through the material I did include since there is so much of it, but I think that when I have gotten through it all, that the attendees will know the value of tying their magickal and liturgical work to the cycles of the moon. This is particularly important for important ro strategic magickal workings that seek to dramatically change one's material situation. I will be posting some additional articles on that topic in this blog on or after the workshop has been presented - so stay tuned.

If you are thinking about attending Pantheacon 2011 this year, I would like to let you know that I will be there, too, and also to give you the times and locations of my two presentations. The program book has not yet been made available to the public, so the schedule at this point is tentative but fairly certain. Here's some information about the two classes that you can use - but don't forget to examine the program book to make certain nothing has been changed. I hope to see you there. I will be bringing my laptop with me, so I might even make a remark or two in my blog while I am attending. There are some very interesting programs and presentations being given during that period, so I am hoping to get to attend some of them. I will also get to see some really good friends that I haven't seen since the last time I was there. Hopefully, I will get to make some new ones, too, so if you are there, drop into my class or say hello if you happen to bump into me. I will have autographed copies of my books for sale, just in case you might be interested.

Here are the workshop classes and the times and locations where they will meet. You will notice that both of them are scheduled for Friday. Interestingly enough, the workshop on Lunar Magick will be held during the Full Moon for February. How cool is that occurrence?!

Title: ASTROLOGICAL DECANS - KEY TO EVOCATION

When & Where: Friday - 01:30 PM - Santa Clara

Description: This workshop will examine all of the elements, including correspondences and materials from other authors that will show how the astrological decans, also known as the Faces, are the key to categorizing and mastering the invocation of the Ha-Shem Angels, Goetic Demons and the Angelic Rulers.

Title: LUNAR MAGICK

When & Where: Friday - 07:00 PM - Santa Clara

Description: This workshop examines how the cycle of the moon can be used to powerfully effect practical magick. We will examine the seasonal full moons, the eight phases of the lunation cycle and the 28 mansions of the moon.

Magick Trying To Formulate An Answer To A Question

Magick Trying To Formulate An Answer To A Question Image
"Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law"

I was asked today, after someone picked up a copy of Gareth Knight's "The Abbey Papers"* from my bookshelf, so what is magick? I've always struggled to give a comprehensive answer to such a question, so each time I try I formulate it a little differently. The following is a very Thelemic definition of magick which I feel happy enough with so I thought I'd share the answer to my question with a larger audience through the blog.

MagickWhat Is It?In this world of reason and science it is difficult to bring ourselves to say we believe in that which cannot be seen, smelt, touched, heard or otherwise observed or measured. Here we find ourselves in the very scary realm beyond science, beyond what the world has taught us as real, yet in these realms beyond the veil of orthodox thought we find many others who for one reason or another have also been drawn on the journey down the rabbit hole. In the occult we find ourselves not in the company of the ignorant and insane, but in the company of intelligent and well-informed minds who make a strange sort of sense.

The author Arthur C. Clarke stated 'any sufficiently advanced science would appear to be magick to the less advanced observer', and as such it is neither supernatural, nor the unnatural, simply an aspect of nature currently unrecognised by conventional Western science. But why does this discipline, which by scientific standards is superstition at best, draw the minds of modern men and women? As wonderful as science is, and of the many questions it has answered, it has failed to answer all questions, and it has failed to quench mans desire to look beyond what he can see and touch. Our search for spirit is something inherent within each of us and shows a subconscious knowledge of the force of deity in our lives.

In the occult path we approach these questions methodically, recognising we cannot see or measure deity, but we can see the exertion of spiritual energy, which we actively work with.Rudolf Steiner referred to the occult as Spiritual Science and the esotericist Aleister Crowley stated 'our method is science, our aim is religion'.The term occult means hidden knowledge and our work with that which cannot be seen shall bring us to a deeper and more fulfilling understanding of the hidden nature of the universe than any other.

Western esotericism is the vehicle through which I and many others choose to experience the spiritual sciences and due to the wide expanse of the esoteric tradition I focus on the Western esotericism and magick.

Magick is, by the definition of the occultist Aleister Crowley, '...the art and science of causing change in conformity with will'. Certainly upon first glance this definition would seem to say all willed or desired acts are magickal but Crowley had a special understanding of the term 'will'.By Crowley's definition 'will' is the most high and perfect expression of the purpose of the individual. This was expressed as 'Do what thou wilt be the whole of the law', the causing of change in accordance with will is the entirety of the human purpose. This statement was supplemented by "love is the law, love under the will". Every action led by the higher will is an act of union between the individual and the higher purpose or cosmic will, of which the individual and their individual actions when properly led, form a unique and vital part.

Magick is therefore the art of active spiritual science, working with the cosmic forces to cause change in accordance with Will. And of its methodologies? Magick as we understand it in the Western esoteric tradition is a discipline of rigorous daily activity involving combinations of self discipline, meditation and ritual.

The purpose of these devices is an open dialogue with the deeper aspects of consciousness, and through this medium an ultimate dialogue with the super consciousness, or cosmic will. This can and has been referenced variously by different groups and individuals, but its essential nature is the same.

The art of magick goes beyond the bounds of devotion or mere knowledge of the existence of the cosmic and divine hierarchies, it is the active spiritual experience of working with and manifesting the cosmic will.Yes, certainly the techniques of ritual, meditation and so forth could be considered magick in a less philosophical and more material/manifest sense, but these methodologies are a bridge to the cosmic will and a means through which one can manifest it and should not be considered in any way a lesser block of the work of the esotericist.

Magick is the great work, of which every man and woman has their own unique role to play.

"Love is the law, love under will"

*which is highly recommendable

The True Nature Of Golden Dawn Lineage

The True Nature Of Golden Dawn Lineage Image
Yesterday Nick Farrell wrote an article trying to rationalize his repeated profanation of "oath bound" Golden Documents. I considered this worthy of several hours of my time to refute, so that younger Golden Dawn initiates in our community would not be misled by Mr. Farrell's bad example, and to provide a positive role model for the traditional value of secrecy in initiatic traditions, including in the Golden Dawn. You may read this article on the Golden Dawn Blog here.

Mr. Farrell replied with yet another long "lineage rant" Alpha et Omega. The Golden Dawn community, of course, grew bored with Mr. Farrell's attack rants long ago, that have even tainted the feigned objectivity of his otherwise fine books.

There is no need, therefore, to waste time refuting such nonsense in detail yet again, as such screeds have been refuted over and over for nearly two decades already.

Let it suffice to say that, despite frequent and thorough refutation, Nick Farrell today still fails even to grasp what lineage means for a spiritual tradition like the Golden Dawn. Farrell mistakenly assumes that Golden Dawn lineage is like the formal lineage of Freemasonry, which amounts to little more than successions of paper charters.

The Golden Dawn, however, is a spiritual tradition, and thus lineage for the Golden Dawn, contrary to Nick Farrell's fundamental misunderstanding, is not at all like that of Freemasonry, but instead more closely resembles the lineages of Zen and Tibetan Buddhism, which are also "spiritual" lineages.

Golden Dawn lineage, as do all of the great spiritual lineages of the world, carries with it sets of spritual practices that lead to specific spiritual realizations, as do as the Dharma transmissions of Buddhism.

A perfect example of Golden Dawn spritual lineage, are the secret magical practices of the Hermetic tradition just communicated by the Secret Chiefs of the Third Order of the Golden Dawn to the Second Order of the Alpha Omega. As I mentioned in my recent article here, this spiritual lineage includes the initiatic secrets of the magical systems only touched upon in Cornelius Agrippa's", De Occulta Philosophia, "that were only alluded to in the profaned Golden Dawn material published by Crowley and Regardie. This is the first time that the actual magical practices have been transmitted to any Golden Dawn order.

This Hermetic spiritual lineage also includes a great deal more, which I am not at liberty to disclose publicly at this time. I may only mention that this Hermetic spiritual lineage also includes a complete system of Chaldaen elemental and astrological magic, available exclusively in the Second Order of the A.O.

When it comes to spiritual traditions, lineage without the requisite spiritual practices is worthless, and the true reason why Nick Farrell continuously attacks the Alpha Omega is to divert attention from the fact that Farrell has nothing at all to offer his Golden Dawn students, except for well known and published material.

Readers interested in examining a more thorough refutation of one of Nick Farrell's typical lineage rants, should read "Golden Dawn Lineage, Nick Farrell and Historical Revisionism" on the Golden Dawn blog [www.golden-dawn.org].

Readers seeking more detailed information about the true nature of Golden Dawn lineage or about the vast Hermetic, Rosicucian, and Golden Dawn lineages held by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and the Rosicrucian Order of A.O., will find it on our website here, here, and here. and on the website of the Golden Dawn Research Center [www.golden-dawn.org].

Pagan Faith And Tradition

Pagan Faith And Tradition Image

Grand Conservator of the Pagan Faith and Tradition

of the Sacred Forest of NemiTranslated and Introduced by Golden Dawn ImperatorDAVID GRIFFIN

PART A. INTRODUCTION (BY DAVID GRIFFIN)

It is my pleasure to introduce an article offering a revolutionary perspective, written by Arch Priest Dianus del Bosco Sacro, current Grand Conservator of the Pagan Faith and Tradition of the Sacred Forest of Nemi (Del Bosco Sacro di Nemi), on the subject of Pagan survival from antiquity in Italy.

Dianus' lengthy article will be presented here on the Golden Dawn blog as a series of shorter pieces, in part detailing how noble Hermetic alchemists from the Partenopean initiatic center secretly preserved essential elements of ancient Roman Paganism from destruction by the Inquisition during the dark age of Christianity. During the course of the exposition, we shall witness how Western spiritual sexuality comprises an omnipresent Ariadne's thread demonstrating Pagan continuity from the most ancient times until today.

Throughout history, we encounter the same, sublime sexual mysteries over and over, albeit clothed in ever changing symbols: from the mysteries of Dionysos, Diana, and Janus - to the Villa of the Mysteries in Pompeii, which had such a profound impact on Gerald Gardner immediately prior to his formulation of Wicca - from the rich symbolism of Hermetic alchemy known as the "language of the birds" - to the hitherto unrecognized symbolism masking the same sexual mysteries in Charles Godfrey Leland's "Aradia, the Gospel of the Witches."

Dionysos and Arianne

According to the lore of the "Del Bosco Sacro" Pagan tradition of the Sacred Forest of Nemi, Western spiritual sexuality first arose with the ancient shamanic religion of the Great Mother Goddess in Continental Europe. Whereas the primordial sexual mysteries would be preserved as The Great Rite along Matriarchal lines in Europe, they also spread to Sumeria, Babylon, and Egypt, where over time they became the Royal Art of Alchemy.

Following the conquest of Egypt by Rome, the sexual mysteries of alchemy were carried back to Rome by Priests of Isis. Arriving in Naples, Cuma, and Pompeii along the Partenopean coast, this masculine Priesthood encountered the great Pagan Matriarchs. These Patriarchal, alchemical and Matriarchal, shamanic lineages quickly discovered their sexual mysteries to be so similar, that they could only have arisen from a common source.

Thus began the intimate collaboration of the Hermetic alchemists and the Pagan Matriarchs that would secretly endure so many Centuries - even until today. Thus it came to pass that, when persecuted by the Catholic Church and faced with extinction, the ancient Pagan Matriarchs found sanctuary, protection, and survival in the Parthenopean initiatic center of Hermetic alchemy.

It is in this spirit that the Rosicrucian Order of Alpha et Omega and our outer order, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, as inheritors of so many Hermetic and Rosicrucian magical and alchemical lineages, is pleased today to continue to offer protection to the Pagan tradition of the Sacred Forest of Nemi.

I dedicate this translation to Lady Diana of the Sacred Forest of Nemi, 38th Arch Priestess Del Bosco Sacro, and Lady of the Game of Benevento.

by guest blogger (Lady Diana del Bosco Sacro)

As Imperator of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, I pledge my sword to the protection of Lady Diana, as have all Imperators before me of the Parthenopean Hermetic and Rosicrucian traditions.

Let all who would harm the Mysteries fear the sword of +AmoR+.

Improving Communication In The Golden Dawn Community

Improving Communication In The Golden Dawn Community Image
In the comments section of Morgan Drake Eckstein's article to which my last post replied, Morgan recently published the following sniping comment from Nick Farrell. It is noteworthy that, despite Morgan's call for more direct communications in the Golden Dawn community, he has subsequently failed to publish my direct rebuttal to Farrell's comment on the same venue.

This seriously calls into question the credibility and sincerity of Morgan's call for direct, fraternal communication in the Golden Dawn community. Granted, it has only one day since I attempted to post a rebuttal, but it so far appears that my praise for Morgan may have been a bit premature.

PLEASE NOTE: PUBLISHING PROPAGANDA STYLE "TALKING POINTS" FROM GOLDEN DAWN CAMP, WHILE DENYING DIRECT REBUTTAL FROM THE OTHER ON THE SAME VENUE, HAS BEEN A MAJOR FACTOR UNDERMINING LEGITIMATE DEBATE AND SINCERE FRATERNAL DIALOGUE IN THE GOLDEN DAWN COMMUNITY FOR NEARLY TWO DECADES NOW.

Contrary to recent allegations made by Morgan, this is not pretending to be some sort of Internet Police. This is just being fed up with nearly two decades of "talking point" internet soap box sniping undermining legitimate discussion and fraternal harmony in the Golden Dawn community.

Below follow both the comment from Farrell Morgan published and my missing rebuttal:"I dont think there is an abyss of thought within the European Golden Dawn and the rest of the world. I assume you mean Griffins lot? If you said that there was a growing gulf between Griffin's order and he rest of the universe I would agree, but centering it on the EU is a bit unfair."Here is my rebuttal:Care Frater Nick, Have you still not grown tired repeating the silly talking points over and over like a broken record like your worn out meme of "Griffin vs. the rest of the universe"?Has the time not long passed for such cheap rhetorical tactics better suited to the world of propaganda and merely derail real fraternal discourse and scholarly debate?

I for one certainly have better things to do than to go on refuting talking points you and Pat spout over and over "ad nauseum" for yet another decade! The reality, whether we like it or not, is that traditionalist Golden Dawn orders like the HOGD/AO and the August Order of the Mystic Rose (just to mention two visible examples) will likely never agree on everything with reconstructionist Golden Dawn orders like your MOAA and Pat Zaewlski's OGD.This, however, is no justification to continue the sort internet sniping contained in your above comment and that has plagued our commmunity for nearly two decades now. I invite you to abandon merely repeating propaganda "talking points" over and to instead engage in sincere fraternal dialogue and debate instead. The Golden Dawn community has suffered more than enough already due to cheap rhetorical tactics like these. Let us instead agree to disagree like grown men about the many things that we actually do disagree about, yet nonetheless show the world the Golden Dawn community has outgrown the silliness that has plagued our community for nearly two decades now. Enough is enough already.

Fraternally,David Griffin

Ronald Mcfarrell And Other Franchisees Of The Mcgoldendawn

Ronald Mcfarrell And Other Franchisees Of The Mcgoldendawn Image
The McGD(R) of Ronald McFarrell and other franchisees of the McGoldenDawn(R) "Cult of Reconstructionism" are only the latest McDonaldizers of Occulture, but the Golden Dawn is not just any Order! In fact this rot is now eating at what has long represented the public face of the Western Mystery TRADITION.

Even though the McGD propaganda offensive still spins itself into frenzies of purple prose pre-prepared by the McGD lobby for release just as the final plank in McFarrell's several volume political tract hit the streets, the Traditional Golden Dawn Defence Team has stood strong.

No amount of name-calling, mud-slinging, and rote denial of matters of fact has quenched the iron resolve of the Alpha Omega in drawing a line for traditional GD orders in the sand against ALL who deny our Way the right to exist unmolested, with Secrets intact, and our members respected in their Path of choice.

The agenda currently in use by the McDonaldizing franchisees is hallmarked by the blindness of Fundamentalism, which always requires that blinkers be worn to exclude any valid point of view coming from the marginalized Other.

What has given McGD added force in warping the debate is that post-modernist "culture" is itself fully in support of such agendas against traditional spirituality, and selectively redefines "that which is rational" to suit itself. This has become so all-pervasive in modern life as to represent an unconscious web of assumptions.

McGD(R) Secret Chief - Raphael McFallenAngel(R)

As a traditional Golden Dawn order, the Alpha Omega must be forever wary of this onslaught generated by popular culture's fear and denigration of tradition, which stands in stark contrast to the fast food mentality of "ME! MORE! NOW!" - as this is entirely underpinned by egotism, greed and impatience.

It becomes ever harder to successfully train aspirants who arrive at our doorsteps drenched in these poisons. When they discover that we are applying antidotes of selflessness, hard work and patience, the shock is often too much for those so used to instant gratification of their culturally manufactured "needs"! Nor do we pander to demands for adjustments to a more "politically correct" approach that would better suit the ego games of Fifth Columnists seeking to force the election of their preferred candidate in some variety of boardroom takeover fantasy.

The fast food spirituality of McDonaldized Occulture cannot digest us so it instead attacks us at every turn. The root of this is the infantile desire to kill their father and possess their mother, for the AO, as a traditional GD order, openly claims to be manifesting from the SOURCE, and thereby the Father of the GD Egregore, and to carry the maternal Isiac Mysteries.

In fact a juvenilization of the Golden Dawn is underway among post-modernist initiates, one that perfectly matches the regressive trends of the wider popular culture towards arrogant disregard for the traditions of elders, and failures to mature responsibly beyond the larval stage.

McGoldenDawn(R) GMO Bio-Science

This neoteny will drive the McGD Franchisees into a species of Genetically Modified Order, as the only response they have left in the face of their DENIAL of the validity of the Third Order!

McGD(R) FrankenFoods Borg of Directors

They think that they have published the entire GD GENOME now that McFarrell has declared himself Burger King, but they are imagining uses for this code that were never part of the original intention, and these are not natural to the system.

From their lust for Revelation via disembodied Secret Chiefs, they will breed strange hybrids and monsters to feed the power vacuum installed above the headless corpse of a system re-animated by Franken-Farrell's McGD - and some of these will inevitably turn and bite them.

It is truly no surprise to us that we are specifically NOT mentioned by name in McFarrell's Tract, even as he lists his Reconstructionist allies, teachers and McGD franchisees. This marginalization is fully intended. Traditional Golden Dawn Orders have no place in books publishing their secrets, vilifying their founders through pop-psychoanalysis, and setting forth the future plan of attack for the McGolden Dawn Franchisee.

Ronald McFarrell's "Rosy Cross" Inner Order

Those named will be high among the "peers" who will come to "review" every publication with regards to its post-modernist PURITY, and denigrate each traditional voice that dares to be heard over the cosy hubbub of self-congratulation, as it develops a New Orthodoxy.

As a traditional Golden Dawn order, we in the Alpha Omega are the fly in their ointment, and the memory of the Egrogore they think they can Genetically Modify to suit their Frankensteinian dreams. Ronald McFarrell's GMOrder Initiations may fix hunger pangs for a time, but the McGD Franchise knows that post-modern aspirants will keep demanding MORE...

Fast Food Spirituality does not satisfy for very long, and over indulgence in it can be damaging to psychic wellbeing.

The McGD Reconstructionists have attacked every traditional Golden Dawn order they could see for two decades now. Dr. Robert Word, Chief of the August Order of the Mystic Rose was forced into silence by legal harrassment. The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, our outer order was harrassed in court as well, trying to prevent us from even calling ourselves Golden Dawn.

McGD has used every dirty trick in the book including every fear mongering rumor to try to scare people away from traditional Golden Dawn orders. They have spied on us, sabotaged our temples, tried to poach our members, and everything else you can imagine.

But all of this has been to no avail because the Alpha Omega is still today the largest Golden Dawn order in the world. In the AO, we do not believe that resistance is futile. We will continue to resist the McDonaldization of the Golden Dawn and the AO will always remain a shining beacon of light for people not satisfied with post-modern fast food spirituality, but who are looking for the real deal.

Religion Belief

Hinduism acknowledges the differences in people's personalities and religious temperments and takes a marvelously and ripely practical attitude to attaining union with the Atman-Brahman (the One True God).

In Hinduism there are 4 paths outlined called paths of yoga (UNION WITH GOD) which are different wanys of imagining, approaching and enacting the divine.

1. Jnana Yoga : The path of transcendent through knowledge.

2. Bhakti Yoga: The path of devotion, usually by the image of a personal God.

3. Raja Yoga: The path of royal (raj) reintegration through psychophysical excercises.

4. Karma Yoga: The path of works and action dedicated selflessly to the Supreme.

From, THE ESSENTIAL MYSTICS by Andrew Harvey

There is great deal of misunderstanding that surrounds Hinduism and that is found mainly among people of the Book (Jewish, Christians and Islam). This is because Hindus worship in many gods and worship idols which seems polytheistic from external. But that is not the Soul of Hinduism. Hindus also acknowledge only One Supreme Being. But they believe in different level of manifestation of Divine and since Hinduism evolved in early state of human intellectual evolution, forms was created and needed to understand the Limitless Divine into limited forms. Thus idols were created although the basic of doctrine of Hinduism is essentially Monotheistic. Read more on Hindu Philosophy.

Facemask Found In Wall

Facemask Found In Wall Image
I received an interesting story from a reader yesterday and i would like to share the story with you all in order to help the reader. A reader of mine named Daniel found a mysterious FACEMASK in a wall of a building he was working on in Philadelphia. Below is his story:

Philadelphia Facemask Found

Hello, I am writing to you because I have a question about a mask that I discovered inside a plaster wall I was demolishing. I was working the demolition of some walls in a house in the Mt. Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia, it dates back to 1913. Inside one of the walls, mixed in with plaster and old insulation, I found a cheesecloth mask with a face painted on it. The face looks like a devil, with the wispy mustache and goatie. From the way it was shaped it looked like it had been worn by someone. I took it home with me and have kept it for over a year, I am so curious to know what it might mean. Whether that type of mask is part of an occult ritual from the early 20th century, or why someone would have made it and then hidden it in a wall? If you have any references, responses, or can possibly refer me to someone who does I would really appreciate it. I have photos of the mask and the wall I found it in.

Thank you, Daniel.

Interesting story.. Sounds like a FACEMASK may have been used in rituals in the past. Ceremonies and rituals were much more common over a hundred years ago across the world especially in western countries. These were usually very secret practices (occult rituals) as in some places this was even illegal or banned (mainly from church influence). Sounds like they hid the evidence ( the mask you found) way back previously. I wonder if occult rituals were illegal in Philadelphia in the early nineteen hundreds.?

Try to look up on the internet to find similar facemask designs for more clues or email me the image so i can look up for you as well..

Have a nice day.

Regards,

Timon

Money Spell

Money Spell Image
This may be done at any time, but preferably at the same time each day or night. You will need a green candle and a white candle. The green candle represents the money and the white candle represents you. Make sure you anoint the candles with oil first, thinking of our desire for money to come to you. Set the candles on your altar or a table, 9 inches apart. After doing this, say:

"Money, money come to me
In abundance three times three
May I be enriched in the best of ways
Harming none on its way
This I accept, so mote it be
Bring me money, three times three."

Repeat this for nine days. Each day move the white candle one inch closer to the green candle. When the candles touch, your spell is finished. Make sure you visualize the money pouring in from the universe.

Pseudo Historians And The Golden Dawn Feud

Pseudo Historians And The Golden Dawn Feud Image

I Ain't Feudin' - I'm Writin' "History"

Nick Farrell today published yet another pseudo-historical rant on his blog, in which Farrell once again merely repeated the same, worn out talking points, while completely failing to address any of the host of subtantial rebuttals to his talking points that have been raised over and over again from scholars from across the entire spectrum of the esoteric community. Mr Farrell does not yet appear to yet understand the incongruence of his claiming to he a "historian of the Golden Dawn, yet failing to even the most basic rules of academia!

On the Golden Dawn forum, Mr. Farrell was recently taken to task for his propaganda-like approach to "history" by acacemic anthropologist, Leslie McQuade, who wrote:

Anthropologist Leslie McQuade

SUBJECT: When Magicians Play Historian "As an academic and a trained anthropologist, it has been extremely entertaining over the past couple of days to observe the group of quasi-academics play historian, while ignoring the most basic rules of academia. No matter how much I disagree with my detractors, the rigors of academia require that I acknowledge and engage counter arguments to the points that I am presenting. To merely repeat "talking points" over and over, like a broken record, whether in forum, book, or blog form, while completely ignoring any rebuttal may work well in the rough and tumble world of Republican politics, but in in real world academia it will likely cost you your peer review. Thus my judgement of esotericist/magicians "playing historians" (like fire-weilding bonobos) seems to be very apt when it comes to the arrogance and complete disregard for even the most fundamental of academic rigors and protocols recently exhibited by Golden Dawn lay-historians." - Leslie McQuade

Mr. Farrell is once again playing with fire in his self-appointed role of "myth busting conooclast" attacking fundamental aspects of the Golden Dawn using a pseudo-historical yardstick. Mr. Farrell has been taken to task by real academics for this on numerous occasions as well. Here is what anthropologist Leslie McQuade recently wrote, for example:"AS AN ANTHROPOLOGIST, I FIND IT FASCINATING THAT PAT ZALKEWKI AND NICK FARRELL, WHO PURPORT TO LEAD GOLDEN DAWN ORDERS, DO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS INITIATIC PROOF RATHER THAN HISTORICAL PROOF THAT IS THE CORRECT YARDSTICK WITH WHICH TO MEASURE THE "OATH BOUND" MATERIAL OF ANY INITIATIC TRADITION. YOU SEE, AS A TRAINED ANTHROPOLOGIST, I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY CULTURES, AND TO HAVE THE PERMISSION OF THOSE CULTURES TO LEARN THINGS USUALLY HIDDEN TO OTHER RESEARCHERS. THIS IS BECAUSE OF MY DUAL STATUS AS NOT ONLY AS ANTHROPOLOGIST, BUT ALSO AS AN INITIATED WITCH. THIS IS A PROCESS CALLED "PARTICIPANT OBSERVER". IT IS A SCIENTIFIC METHOD WHEREBY IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND SOME ASPECTS OF CULTURE IT IS NECESSARY TO ACTUALLY "BECOME" A MEMBER OF THE SOCIETY AT A CERTAIN LEVEL. USUALLY THIS MEANS UNDERGOING CERTAIN RITES OF PASSAGE WHICH ARE AGE AND EXPERIENCE APPROPRIATE, BUT ALSO, AS IN MY CASE, PURSUING MY INTERESTS IN MAGIC IN THE FIELD. I AM NOT REALLY SURPRISED TO FIND THIS PHENOMENON IN THE GOLDEN DAWN COMMUNITY. IN THE PAGAN COMMUNITY, WE HAVE FREQUENTLY HAD TO DEAL WITH HISTORIANS TRYING TO PLAY ANTHROPOLOGIST, EVEN THOUGH UNTRAINED IN THE ETHNOGRAPHIC METHOD. IN MR. FARRELL'S CASE, HIS EXPERIENCE AS A TABLOID JOURNALIST DOES NOT COMPENSATE FOR HIS LACK OF ACADEMIC TRAINING IN THE HISTORICAL METHOD. IN THE CASE OF THE CONTEMPORARY GOLDEN DAWN, WE FIND A BIZARRE SITUATION WHERE ESOTERICISTS LIKE MR. FARRELL MAKE SWEEPING JUDGEMENTS ABOUT ESOTERIC MATERIAL AS THOUGH THEY WERE TRAINED HISTORIANS, WHICH THEY ARE NOT. EVEN IF THEY WERE, BY THE WAY, THEY WOULD NONETHELESS BE OUT OF THEIR DEPTH, AS THE EVALUATION OF A LIVING OCCULT TRADITION IS THE PROPER PERVUE OF THE ANTHROPOLOGIST RATHER THAN THE HISTORIAN. WHAT WE ARE WITNESSING TODAY IN THE GOLDEN DAWN COMMUNITY ARE A GROUP OF OCCULTISTS PRETENDING TO BE HISTORIANS WHILE, BASED ON MOTIVES THAT ARE PURELY POLITICAL, PASSING SWEEPING JUDGEMENTS ON MATERIAL WHICH IS ANTHROPOLOGICAL RATHER THAN HISTORICAL IN NATURE TO BEGIN WITH." - LESLIE MCQUADETRUTH I: The real reason Nick Farrell keeps trying to debunk the Secret Chiefs of the Third Order of the Golden Dawn and the Rosicrucian Order of Alpha et Omega is JEALOUSY, as was also the case in the Hatfield-McCoy Feud.

TRUTH II: The root of the problem is Nick Farrell leads a Golden Dawn order with nothing to offer his students but well known magick you can buy anywhere in a cheap Llewellyn edition. Farrell therefore writes entire books trying to prove no one else has anything more or better to offer than Llewellyn rehashes like he does.

TRUTH III: What is driving Mr. Farrell off the rails is that the Rosicrucian Order of Alpha et Omega offers Adepts from the entire Golden Dawn community a vast amount of advanced magical practices and systems that were recently transmitted by the Secret Chiefs to the Golden Dawn community through the Alpha et Omega.

TRUTH IV: The real reason Mr. Farrell attacks lineage, the A.O., and the Secret Chiefs themselves is because the Secret Chiefs chose the A.O. instead of Mr. Farrell's order to transmit this material. Rest assured... had the Secret Chiefs chosen Farrell's order, you would have heard him singing praises instead of attacking the Secret Chiefs!

TRUTH V: Regarding lineage, Farrell desperately ignores that it is the "body of teachings and practices" themselves that define lineage in a spiritual tradition, and not some pseudo-historical nonsense. I have covered this subject already thoroughly here.

And the absolute root of the problem?

TRUTH VI:

"The A.O. has new Golden Dawn magic to teach. Nick Farrell has only old rehash."

And contrary to Nick Farrell's propaganda...

TRUTH VII: The Alpha et Omega is not asking anyone to take our cornucopia of new, advanced Golden Dawn teachings on "faith." As my grandmother used to say:

"The proof is in the pudding."

In other words, it is the advanced Golden Dawn magical and spiritual practices and teachings - in themselves - that are the real proof. Mr. Farrell's specious claim that we are asking people to take these things on "blind faith" is merely a word game. As Ms. McQuade mentioned above, Farrell is inappropriately demanding "historical" proof, when the real yardstick is "initiatic" proof for oath bound initiatic material.

... And the Alpha et Omega sharing this CONCRETE AND INDISPUTABLE PROOF with the entire Golden Dawn community at the International Conclave of Golden Dawn Adepti, beginning March 9, 2012 near Las Vegas, Nevada. Here you will find complete details. Hope to see you there at this historical event!

At the end of the day, there is plenty of room in the Golden Dawn for both Mr. Farrell's order and the Alpha et Omega. There is no need at all for Mr. Farrell to be so obsessed with attacking/"debunking" our order and the Secret Chiefs.

There are plenty of people that come to the Golden Dawn looking for history. These people are better off in Mr. Farrell's order.

There are, however, also plenty of people who join the Golden Dawn wanting to learn magick. Many of these people are familiar with the published Golden Dawn material and are not looking for just a Regardie book study group.

These people want to learn NEW magical systems and are looking for accelerated spiritual growth through advanced magical practices and techniques. These people are better off joining the Alpha et Omega.

Thus the two orders serve the needs of completely different types of students, so there is no reason, jealousy aside, for Mr. Farrell to continue with his obssession with our order.

We wish Mr. Farrell and his order well, even though we do wish Mr. Farrell would mind his own business and teach his own students more, instead of trying to rewrite history in veiled attacks on our order all the time.

I, for one, have much better things to do with my time than to go on refuting the same talking points from Mr. Farrell over and over.

One would hope Mr. Farrell also has better things to do than to go on repeating them endlessly.
